Recently, there has been a noticeable increase in the influx of visitors to the Kanchenjunga vicinity. In the past quarter, the illustrious Kanchenjunga area has welcomed approximately 650 international sightseers.

Dobhan Limbu, serving as the Information Officer at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council's office, remarked that during the initial season of this fiscal year, the base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga received visitations from 650 international tourists.

A corresponding figure of national tourists also graced the area with their presence. Regrettably, the Council lacks a mechanism to register and track data concerning domestic visitors. Nevertheless, local hotel operators are brimming with joy due to the surge in tourism within this locality.

Tourism stakeholders anticipate a surge in tourist traffic for the upcoming secondary season, from April through June. The preceding year saw patronage from 439 international voyagers. Current records indicate a substantial elevation of 211 international visitors compared to figures documented in the preceding year.

Given this escalation in tourist activities, businesses oriented towards tourism are gradually reverting to their pre-pandemic operational norm. Office Secretary at the Council, Man Kumar Limbu expressed that the Kanchenjunga mountain region is slowly emerging from a prolonged period of dormancy inflicted by COVID-19 and restoring its former essence.

Tourism represents a principal economic pillar for communities domiciled in and around Kanchenjunga. The burgeoning visitor numbers have instilled a renewed sense of optimism amongst local tourism facilitators and lodging proprietors.
