Dhan Raj Acharya, the city's mayor, is resolute in making this vision come true. He emphasizes that even without federal government support, the provincial administration will proclaim Pokhara as a tourist capital before 2023 comes to an end. The recently elected mayor has prioritized this goal ever since he took office.

Gandaki Province's Chief Minister Surendra Pandey also displays unwavering dedication towards this objective. There is a shared desire among local politicians to position Pokhara as a top-tier travel hotspot.

Nevertheless, the road to becoming the coveted tourism capital includes overcoming certain hurdles. A recently published report points out insufficient data and inadequate planning as stumbling blocks for Pokhara's ambitious aspirations. Since 2019, when the provincial government announced its intention to turn Pokhara into the tourism capital, comprehensive planning and implementation have become increasingly crucial.

Despite these difficulties, tourism enterprises in the city are gradually bouncing back following a temporary downturn caused by the cessation of global events. Business owners eagerly anticipate further expansion as interest in Pokhara's role as a tourist hub grows.

Globally recognized events are also beginning to feature Pokhara prominently within the travel industry. In 2023, The PATA Annual Summit and Adventure Mart will occur in Pokhara, shining an international spotlight on the destination.

Establishing Pokhara as the tourism capital helps promote eco-friendly travel practices and paves the way for a wealthier Gandaki province.
