Direct Relief, a charitable humanitarian organization, has joined forces with Dhulikhel Hospital in providing medical aid following the recent 6.4 magnitude earthquake in northwestern Nepal. This catastrophe resulted in a minimum of 157 fatalities and left numerous individuals injured and homeless.

Dhulikhel Hospital, which has been receiving support from Direct Relief since 2015, has sent personnel to assist the regions affected by the earthquake in western Nepal. In the last three months, Direct Relief has supplied two major consignments of medical equipment to the hospital, including 35 pallets of surgical tools, diagnostic instruments, personal protective gear, nutritional products, vitamins, and intensive care unit supplies. The organization is closely monitoring the unfolding events and stands ready to respond to any requests.

As a nonprofit humanitarian entity, Direct Relief's primary objective is to improve the welfare of those living in impoverished or crisis-stricken situations by delivering appropriate medical resources. The organization provides emergency medical aid and disaster relief both within the United States and globally. Direct Relief focuses on furnishing healthcare professionals in underprivileged communities with essential tools for diagnosing and treating patients who require assistance. Through the provision of critical medical resources to doctors and nurses, Direct Relief seeks to enhance worldwide access to medications and healthcare services.

Direct Relief has historically provided significant support to Nepal during difficult periods. For example, during Nepal's Covid-19 upsurge, Direct Relief organized an airlift of supplies donated from organizations such as One Heart Worldwide, Dhulikhel Hospital, and The Covid-19 Crisis Management Center for distribution across various hospitals and clinics nationwide. Moreover, when a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal in 2015, Direct Relief collaborated with Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population by adhering to their list of high-priority needs – including medications, disinfectants, and other vital provisions – ensuring effective relief efforts were conducted. In addition to these endeavors, Direct Relief allocated funds towards establishing Nepal's first modern cold chain facility, aimed at augmenting the country's capacity to store temperature-sensitive treatments, such as Covid-19 vaccines and other immunizations.
