On Monday, Tribhuvan University in Nepal established a world record by having an extraordinary gathering of over 26,000 attendees during its convocation ceremony. The 49th convocation took place at Dasharath Stadium and was graced by the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda.'

Tribhuvan University (TU) received recognition from the Official World Record (OWR) for its unparalleled assembly of more than 26,000 people, encompassing a diverse range of attendees such as female participants, parents, awardees, guests, and graduate students. According to university officials, this event marked the grandest convocation in history.

The university also asserted that it had set a world record for simultaneously graduating the most students during the ceremony. Registrar Peshal Dahal of Tribhuvan University stated that although 12,415 graduates from various fields participated in the event, a total of 73,749 graduates were eligible for convocation.

Furthermore, TU applied to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for graduating the most students globally. A representative from the organization arrived in Nepal to assess this claim.

TU Convocation: Types

There are two types of convocations provided by Tribhuvan University: regular and special. Regular convocation is held every year for Bachelor, Master, Master in Philosophy (M.Phil), and Ph. D degrees. Special convocations are held in special cases for conferring Honorary Degrees to distinguished national and international scholars.

TU Convocation: Dress Code

In every convocation ceremony, there is a generally specified dress code for both male and female students. Likewise, TU also has a specified dress code for its convocation ceremony, as mentioned below:

  • For Male Students: Coat, pants, tie, and hat along with gown or scarf cap provided by the University
  • For Female Students: Formal attire or saree and blouse along with gown or scarf cap provided by the University

Also, students should get all the details from the University beforehand, as it may change on a year-to-year basis. 

TU Convocation: Fee Rules

  • Students should be required to pay a fee for the convocation ceremony, which is non-refundable. Similarly, they also have to pay a refundable deposit for the gown and scarf. The amount of such charges may differ on a year-to-year basis, hence it is necessary to get detailed information from the University.
  • Students can accompany themselves with a guardian or spouse. But there is a limit on the number of people you can take with you. Also, the students may have to pay a charge for the same.
