The National Sports Council in Nepal recently kicked off the bidding process to get floodlights installed at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The government is funding this project to upgrade the stadium's facilities so it can host night cricket matches. It is inviting interested companies to a pre-bid meeting on May 4th, with the deadline for submitting proposals on May 22nd. Adding lights will majorly improve things at the stadium and make for an awesome vibe for fans watching matches under the lights.
Floodlights are powerful lighting systems designed specifically for illuminating sports venues during night games. These lights provide exceptional visibility for both athletes and fans, allowing sports and entertainment events to carry on late into the evening. Made up of numerous high-intensity bulbs mounted on tall structures, floodlights efficiently spread light across the playing field or arena. As a result, sports like football, cricket, and others can be enjoyed 24/7, regardless of whether there's natural daylight.
Whoever wins the bid will be in charge of supplying the floodlights, setting them up, and handling any maintenance or repairs needed down the line. The Sports Council says they'll judge the bids fairly - looking at the technical specifics companies offer, how much they'll charge, and their experience with projects like this.
The push for floodlights picked up after Nepal's recent match in the CWC League 2 against UAE ended early because of bad lighting with 6 overs still left to play. After that, Prime Minister Prachanda told officials to hurry up and get this floodlight project done as soon as possible.
So companies interested in lighting up Nepal's historic TU Cricket Ground better polish up their bids and get ready to make their pitches on May 4th. The future's bright for night cricket in Kirtipur!
