The Indian government has made an exception to its export ban, allowing Patanjali Ayurved to send 20 MT of non-basmati white rice to Nepal as a donation for the recent 6.4 earthquake victims. Although non-basmati white rice exports were prohibited on July 20 to increase domestic supply, certain countries are granted permission upon request to address their food security needs.
Patanjali Ayurved has been given a one-time exemption to export 20 MT of non-basmati white rice (semi-milled or wholly milled rice, with or without polishing or glazing) as a donation to Nepal, according to the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
In October, the DGFT issued a notification permitting the export of 10,34,800 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to seven countries, including Nepal, Cameroon, and Malaysia. The breakdown of quantities for these countries is as follows: Nepal (95,000 tonnes), Cameroon (1,90,000 tonnes), Cote d'Ivoire (1,42,000 tonnes), Guinea (1,42,000 tonnes), Malaysia (1,70,000 tonnes), Philippines (2,95,000 tonnes), and Seychelles (800 tonnes).
