GORKHA, August 10, 2023 - Picture this: you come across a glistening stone in your backyard, and to your amazement, it turns out to be a gigantic quartz crystal! This was the unexpected delight that befell the inhabitants of Satipipal in Gorkha Municipality-7 earlier this summer.
It all began on June 29 when a radiant stone captured the curiosity of locals in peaceful Gorkha. Word spread rapidly, and before long, specialists from the Department of Mines and Geology were on site, transforming this serene town into a focal point of enthusiasm.
Following two days of careful analysis, Dr. Sushmita Bhandari, a renowned geologist on the team, confirmed what everyone had hoped: the gleaming stone was indeed an enormous quartz crystal, weighing an astonishing 52 kilograms and 330 grams. "Discovering such a massive piece of quartz in its pure, untouched form is truly rare," commented Dr. Bhandari with a sparkle of excitement in her eyes.
For those who aren't aware, gems are classified according to their hardness. While diamonds reign supreme at number ten, this particular quartz crystal comfortably occupies the seventh position. Besides its captivating beauty, quartz crystals also boast practical uses. They're an essential component in an array of electronic gadgets, ranging from sophisticated wristwatches to cutting-edge computers.
The tale takes an even more fascinating turn. Belonging to local resident Rammaya Shahi's family for generations, this dazzling stone has been treasured and venerated for years. As its fame spreads far and wide, an increasing number of locals are voicing their desire to enshrine this gemstone within the sacred Gorakhkali or Gorakhnath temple.
Gorkha, a town already rich in history, has a new attraction. A 52-kg quartz crystal, recently unearthed in Satipipal of Gorkha Municipality-7, is set to be displayed at the Gorkha Durbar premises. This addition promises to enhance the town's appeal to both domestic and international tourists.
The quartz crystal, apart from its sheer size, represents the geological richness of the region. Its placement in the Gorkha Durbar, a site of historical significance, ensures that visitors get a mix of both history and nature.
Local businesses anticipate a rise in tourist numbers, and preparations are underway to cater to the increased interest. This discovery, combined with Gorkha's existing attractions, solidifies its reputation as a diverse tourist destination in Nepal.
