For the Nepalese people in Maryland, USA, and others wishing to taste the Nepalese flavor, 1522 E. Fort Ave. in Locust Point could be a great address. The proprietors Prabhu and Bhagya Thapa have embarked on an exhilarating endeavor to turn their eatery into a local sensation. Encouraged by their son Prabhat, they expanded their residence on Fort Ave. Following careful planning and refurbishment, the revamped dining area of Himalayan House was unveiled in July.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, their restaurant faced a difficult time, temporarily shutting its doors yet continuing its takeaway services. Now, the Thapas are inviting patrons back into their enhanced dining space, replete with abundant natural light and eye-catching design elements.
Having been in the restaurant business since he was 16 and owning a restaurant in Kathmandu, Nepal, Prabhu Thapa infuses a distinct Nepali touch to every dish. The menu at Himalayan House provides a delightful assortment of Indian and Nepali cuisine, freshly prepared upon order by chefs hailing from Nepal.
The rejuvenated space showcases splendid wooden flooring, captivating photos of Nepal, and a color palette chosen to represent the eatery's most popular spices – gold for turmeric and red for chili.
But the renovations didn't end with the interiors. The Thapas made their establishment more approachable by installing a new ramp and expanding the building to incorporate a third floor that houses an apartment with a deck overlooking the park.
Himalayan House's exterior has also been given a makeover with a new LED sign. Owing to its prime location near The Baltimore Montessori and Latrobe Park, the Thapas aim to keep drawing both dine-in and takeout clientele.
The menu boasts fan favorites such as Chicken Momo, and Chicken Tikka Masala, vegetarian options like Saag Paneer and Bhindi Masala, along with an extensive selection of delicious choices from their Tandoori clay oven. Be sure to try their refreshing beverage offerings which include Mango Lassi, Nepali tea, and an assortment of sodas.
The restaurant now provides dine-in hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 AM to 10 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 10:30 PM, and Sundays from 11 AM to 10 PM. Savor the Thapas' culinary expertise and warm hospitality in this revitalized space.
