Yalung Khang West, sometimes called West Yalung Kang, is an impressive peak nestled within Nepal's Kanchenjunga mountain range. Towering at a height of 8,077 meters (26,499 feet), it ranks among the world's tallest peaks. This majestic mountain is situated in Taplejung district's Phaktanglung rural municipality.
The peak is positioned 1.7 km south-southeast from Khangbachen and 1.3 km west of Yalung Khang, making it the 5th highest in the Kanchenjunga range. Climbers can attempt to conquer it by paying a royalty fee: for Nepalese citizens, fees are NRs 10,000 in spring, NRs 5,000 in autumn, and NRs 2,500 in winter or summer. Foreigners are charged USD 1,800 for spring ascents, USD 900 during autumn, and USD 450 for climbs in winter or summer.
The traditional route to reach Yalung Khang West progresses through Taplejung-Gunsa-Lonak-Pangi Pema-BC/Taplejung-Yamphuding-Tseram-BC. The journey spans either 67.2 km via Yamphudin or 67.8 km via Ghunsa. The actual climbing route measures approximately 19.1 km long with an overall expedition time of around 75 days.
Situated in Nepal's Province 1, Yalung Khang West's nearest support center can be found at Tapethok (43.3 km from the base camp along the caravan route). The closest settlements include Yamphudin (25.6 km away) and Ghunsa (13.3 km away).
Yalung Khang West may not be well-known online but its daunting height and rugged landscape attract mountaineers and thrill-seekers alike. The peak is nestled within the breathtakingly beautiful Kanchenjunga range, which is famed for its captivating natural vistas and rich biodiversity.
