Pathibhara Chuli, also known as Pyramid or Sphinx, is a majestic mountain peak nestled in the Kanchenjunga range of the Himalayas. It can be found in Nepal's Taplejung district of Province 1. Towering at an impressive altitude of 7125 meters (or 23425 feet), Pathibhara Chuli's geographical location is marked by the coordinates 27° 49' 14" latitude and 88° 10' 33" longitude. On April 24, 1993, a group consisting of Yoshio Ogata, Jot Singh Bhandari, Hiroshi Iwazaki, Phurba Lepcha, Sunder Singh Martolia, Lobsang Sherpa, and Nobuhiro Shingo successfully conquered its summit for the first time.
A few support centers are available near the basecamp along the journey to the peak. These include the Tapethok police post (57.2KM), Taplejung armed police post (81.8KM), Taplejung army post (81.8KM), and Siwa health center (67.4KM). The closest settlement to Pathibhara Chuli is Khangpachen, which is only 17.6KM away.
The fees to climb Pathibhara Chuli differ based on both the climber's nationality and the season. For Nepalese nationals, prices are set at NRs 6000 during spring, NRs 3000 in autumn, and NRs 1500 during winter/summer seasons. As for international climbers, the fees are USD 500 in spring, USD 250 in autumn, and USD 125 in winter/summer.
To embark on the journey to Pathibhara Chuli, travelers can fly from Kathmandu to either Biratnagar or Bhadrapur and then drive to Taplejung. The traditional caravan route starts at Taplejung and continues through Ghunsa, Lonak, and finally reaching the basecamp. This route is 81.8KM long, with an additional 8.1KM climbing path from the basecamp to the peak. Overall, the entire expedition requires approximately 55 days to complete.
