Khangbachen

Khangbachen, sometimes referred to as Kambachen, is an impressive peak nestled within the Kanchenjunga mountain range in Nepal. Ranking as the seventh tallest peak in this range, it can be found in Province 1 of Nepal, more specifically, the Taplejung district within the Phaktanglung rural municipality. The geographical coordinates for this mountain are approximately 27.7164° latitude and 88.1128° longitude.

With an elevation of 7,903 meters or 25,928 feet, Khangbachen towers over its surroundings. It's located 4.1 km east of Anidesh Chuli, 1.6 km northwest of Yalung Khang West, and 4.1 km west of Kanchenjunga North. This positioning makes Khangbachen an important part of the entire Kanchenjunga mount range.

When it comes to support and resources near the basecamp along the caravan route, a police post at Tapethok acts as the nearest help center being several kilometers away, while an army post is present in Taplejung—the district headquarters—a similar distance from the basecamp. Healthcare facilities can be found at Siwa but are also considerably far from the basecamp. The closest settlement is Khangpachen, situated at the foot of the mountain. Although exact distances to these locations may differ depending on one's chosen path, it's safe to say they're all several kilometers away from Khangbachen’s basecamp.

For aspiring mountaineers interested in tackling Khangbachen’s slopes, royalty fees for an expedition are set at NRs 8,000 during spring season, NRs 4,000 in autumn and NRs 2,000 for winter or summer season for Nepalese citizens. Meanwhile, foreign climbers can expect to pay USD 600 in spring, USD 300 in autumn, and USD 150 during winter or summer months.

In order to reach Khangbachen, travelers must first fly either to Biratnagar or Bhadrapur from Kathmandu and then continue on by vehicle to Taplejung. The caravan route to the summit follows a path that includes Taplejung-Siwa-Tapethok-Ghunsa-Khangpachen-Lhonak-BC, with the whole journey expected to take around 75 days.
