Directed by Samten Bhutia and produced by Savitri Chhetri through SaDa Productions, in partnership with Passang Mintok Films, this marks a significant stride for the region's film industry on an international platform.
Notably, PS Tamang, the Chief Minister of Indian Sikkim's State took to social media to celebrate this achievement, congratulating the team responsible for the film's conception. He remarked on the considerable pride and symbolic importance of this occasion, as it reflects both Sikkim's unique cultural narratives and its burgeoning cinematic presence. Moreover, as Nepalese culture is also closely followed in Sikkim and many people speak the Nepali language, their way of life also reflects the way of life of Nepalese in Nepal in one way or another. This way, though the movie is an Indian production, it directly or indirectly also showcases many things about Nepal.
The Chief Minister offered applause to the director, producer, and all contributors to this artistic endeavor. He extolled their persistence, commitment, and far-sighted vision that has now been recognized on such a remarkable stage. In his own words, CM Tamang expressed that this landmark event is more than a triumph; it is a vibrant testament to the stories and culture of the Himalayas that are now poised to engage a global audience. He views "Tara: The Lost Star," a film rooted deeply in societal themes, as a work capable of enchanting viewers internationally.
Further spotlighting its selection for market screening at Marche Du Film during the Cannes Festival 2024 as indicative of heightened appreciation for regional films globally, CM Tamang expressed his admiration for the thorough professionalism and ambition exemplified by everyone involved in producing "Tara: The Lost Star." Additionally, he invited the people of Sikkim to join together in rejoicing over this historic cinema event. Encouraging continual support for local filmmakers who contribute significantly to elevating Sikkim’s stature through their creative pursuits is also high on his agenda.
"Tara: The Lost Star" showcases a compelling narrative set against the backdrop of Himalayan landscapes and Sikkimese culture. It stars Shayama Shree Sherpa and Kiran Dahal along with key cast members Deoraj Sherpa, Loonibha Tuladhar, Shashikala Pradhan, Sushmita Bhujel, Basant Sharma, Anand Gurung, and Timothy Rai.
With anticipation building towards its premiere at Cannes, "Tara: The Lost Star" aims not only to share a powerful story but also proudly elevate Sikkim's evolving film sector on a world stage.
