Jongsang Peak

Also known as Jonsong or Jhinsang, Jongsang Peak is a stunning mountain situated in Nepal's Province 1, more specifically, in the Taplejung district. As part of the Janak mountain range, it falls under the authority of the Phaktanglung Rural Municipality.

Boasting an impressive elevation of 7,483 meters (24,551 feet), Jongsang Peak's geographical coordinates are 27° 52' 52" latitude and 88° 08' 17" longitude. The first successful ascent on June 3, 1930, by Hermann Hoerlin and Erwin Schneider, holds great significance in mountaineering history.

Jongsang Peak is open for climbing expeditions currently. The royalty fees for attempting this peak depend on both the season and the climbers' nationality. For Nepalese climbers, fees are set at NRs 6000 during spring, NRs 3000 in autumn, and NRs 1500 for winter/summer climbs. In contrast, foreign climbers face fees of USD 500 in spring, USD 250 in autumn, and USD 125 during winter/summer.

Travelers can reach Jongsang Peak by flying to either Biratnagar or Bhadrapur from Kathmandu before taking a vehicle to Taplejung. From there, the caravan route to the peak's base camp passes through Taplejung-Kambachen-Pangpame. This caravan route via Ghunsa spans about 81.8 kilometers in length while the climbing route consists of approximately 13.9 kilometers. Generally, the entire expedition takes around 55 days.

The closest settlement to the base camp is Khangpachen, located at a distance of 17.6 kilometers.
