Ganesh I, sometimes referred to as Yangra or Yangra Kangri, belongs to the Ganesh Himal subrange within the majestic Himalayas. This impressive mountain is situated in the north-central region of Nepal, with a portion of it stretching to the Tibetan border. The Trisuli Gandaki valley lies to its east, separating it from the Langtang range, while the Budhi Gandaki Valley and Shyar Khola valley create a natural barrier from the Sringi Himal and Mansiri Himal on its west. Positioned about 70 km north-northwest of Kathmandu Valley, this natural wonder captures the awe of onlookers.
The Ganesh I peak reaches a staggering 7,429 meters (24,373 feet) above sea level, making it the tallest peak in the Ganesh Himal range. Its geographical coordinates are 28° 23' 30" latitude and 85° 07' 44" longitude. The summit was first conquered on October 24, 1955, by climbers Raymond Lambert, Eric Gauchat, and Claude Kogan.
Nestled in Nepal's Gandaki Pradesh province within the Gorkha district, Ganesh I is surrounded by various services and settlements. From its basecamp along the caravan route, the nearest police post at Philim is a manageable 19.2 km away. For medical assistance, you'll find a health center at Majhgaun about 68.1 km away. The closest settlement to the daunting peak is Kowa.
To scale Ganesh I's imposing heights, climbers must embark on a challenging 17.4 km route that can span nearly two months to complete. Departing from Kathmandu by vehicle to Dhadingbesi, they proceed by foot through Macha Khola, Jagat, Ripchet, Kharka, and possibly Torogumba Kharka - chasing after the distant goal of reaching the Ganesh Himal basecamp.
Before attempting the strenuous climb, mountaineers must pay royalty fees that are determined by the season, as well as their nationality. Nepalese climbers face fees of NRs 6,000 in summer, NRs 3,000 in autumn, and NRs 1,500 in winter. Foreign visitors, on the other hand, can expect to pay higher rates of $500 during the summer months, $250 during autumn, and a reduced fee of $125 during the harsh winter season.
