Nestled within the Dhaulagiri massif in Nepal, Churen Himal West is an impressive peak. Located north of Beni and the Dhor Patan hunting reserve, and to the west of Dhaulagiri itself, this peak is a prominent member of the Dhaulagiri mountain range.
As you journey to the base camp along the caravan route, you will encounter various help centers such as police posts at Gang and Darbang, army posts in Dunai and Beni, and health centers at Gumbagaun and Magardang. Nearby settlements include Kakkotgaun in the Dolpa district and Tallo Jaljala in the Myagdi district.
Climbing royalty fees for Churen Himal West remain consistent with those for Churen Himal. Nepalese climbers are charged NRs 6000 in spring, NRs 3000 in autumn, and NRs 1500 during winter and summer months. Foreign climbers pay USD 500 in spring, USD 250 in autumn, and USD 125 in winter and summer.
Getting to Churen Himal West necessitates flying from Kathmandu to Juphal or driving to Beni. The trek from Juphal spans across Suligadgaun, Dunai, Gumbagaun, and Kakkotgaun before reaching the base camp at an altitude of 3240m. The alternative route from Beni involves trekking through Kaseri, Darbang, Khabang, Tallo Jaljala, and Dhungadhar Kharka before reaching the base camp situated at 3810m. The caravan route spans 51.4KM via Juphal and 75.8KM via Beni while climbing routes measure 18.2KM through Juphal and 15.1KM through Beni.
Churen Himal West poses a considerable challenge for climbers requiring extensive experience. The West Ridge offers the shortest and easiest route for tackling this peak. Lying within the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, it provides a less crowded and unique Himalayan adventure tucked between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
