The Annapurna Base Camp trek starts from the town of Nayapul, which is a 1-2 hour drive from the city of Pokhara. From there, the trail winds through forests and rice paddies, passing through small villages such as Tikhedhunga and Ghorepani. Ghorepani is known for its stunning sunrise views over the Himalayas, and many trekkers stop here for a day to climb nearby Poon Hill for even better views.
From Ghorepani, the trail heads through dense forests of rhododendron and bamboo, with occasional views of snow-capped peaks, until reaching Tadapani. From there, the trail continues through more forests and villages, eventually reaching the town of Chomrong, which is situated at the base of the Modi Khola valley.
Beyond Chomrong, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging, as it ascends up the Modi Khola valley towards the base camp. Along the way, trekkers will pass through several small villages, including Bamboo and Deurali. As the trail climbs higher, the vegetation becomes sparser and the terrain more rugged, with spectacular views of the Annapurna Massif and surrounding peaks.
Eventually, the trail reaches Annapurna Base Camp itself, which is situated at an altitude of 4,130 meters (13,550 feet) amidst a stunning amphitheater of snow-capped peaks. From here, trekkers can enjoy incredible views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and other peaks in the Annapurna range.
On the way back down from the base camp, many trekkers choose to take a slightly different route through the Jhinu Danda hot springs, where they can relax and soak in natural hot springs after several days of trekking. The trek then passes through several small villages and eventually ends back in Nayapul.
Overall, the Annapurna Base Camp trek is a stunningly beautiful and rewarding experience, passing through a wide variety of landscapes and offering incredible views of some of the world's tallest peaks.
