Langtang National Park - Wildlife

Langtang National Park is a protected area in the central Himalayas of Nepal that is home to a diverse array of wildlife. Some of the animals that can be found in the park include:

Snow Leopard: A large cat that is native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. They are known for their distinctive white fur and can weigh up to 75 kg (165 lbs). Snow leopards are a critically endangered species and are threatened by habitat loss and poaching.

Red Panda: A small mammal that is native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. They are easily recognized by their distinctive red fur and white face markings. Red pandas can weigh up to 6 kg (13 lbs) and are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees.

Himalayan Tahr: A large ungulate that is native to the Himalayas. They have a shaggy brown coat and curved horns that can grow up to 48 cm (19 in) long. Himalayan tahrs are primarily herbivores and can weigh up to 100 kg (220 lbs).

Musk Deer: A small deer species that is native to the mountains of Central and East Asia. They are named for the musk glands that are found in the males and are used in traditional medicine. Musk deer have a distinctive, fang-like canine tooth and can weigh up to 20 kg (44 lbs).

Himalayan Black Bear: A medium-sized bear species that is native to the Himalayas. They have a shaggy black coat and can weigh up to 150 kg (330 lbs). Himalayan black bears are omnivorous and are known for their foraging abilities.

Asiatic Wild Dog: Also known as the dhole, this wild dog is found in the Langtang National Park. They are highly social animals and are known for their distinctive whistling calls. Asiatic wild dogs have a lean, muscular body and can weigh up to 20-25 kg (44-55 lbs). They have a reddish-brown coat and white-tipped tails. They are skilled hunters and prey on a variety of animals, including deer and wild boar.

Himalayan Goral: A species of mountain goat found in the Langtang National Park, the Himalayan goral has a shaggy, grayish-brown coat and a white throat. They weigh between 35-45 kg (77-99 lbs) and have curved horns that are around 20-25 cm (8-10 inches) long. Himalayan gorals are known for their agility and can easily navigate the steep and rocky terrain of the mountainous regions where they live.

Himalayan Serow: A type of goat-antelope that is found in the Langtang National Park, the Himalayan serow has a stocky build and short legs. They have a shaggy, dark brown coat and weigh between 70-100 kg (154-220 lbs). Himalayan serows are skilled climbers and can easily navigate the rugged terrain of the mountainous regions where they live.

Yellow-throated Marten: A small carnivorous mammal found in the Langtang National Park, the yellow-throated marten has a slender body and a bushy tail. They have a dark brown coat with a distinctive yellow throat and weigh between 1-2 kg (2.2-4.4 lbs). Yellow-throated martens are skilled climbers and are known for their agility in navigating the trees and rocky terrain where they live. They are also known to be opportunistic predators and will prey on a variety of small animals.
